Membership

Church membership is an important component of Christian discipleship. Jesus said, "Whoever would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me" (Matthew 16:24). The Bible teaches us that to follow Christ requires that we join ourselves to His church (Hebrews 10:22-25; Acts 2:47). Membership is the means whereby we formally commit ourselves to the local expression of Christ's church much like formal vows commit husbands and wives to each other. Church membership brings with it the fruits of joy, fellowship, service, pastoral oversight, and accountability in the local church. Church membership has been a great blessing to us.

We encourage anyone who decides to become a member to worship with us for while.  Once they are confident with a decision to join we would ask that you contact any Elder or Rev. Grotenhuis.  Once a membership course has been taken and the elders and deacons approve a membership, each person is formally welcomed during a worship service.

2017 Spring Membership Course—Due to some scheduling conflicts, the Spring membership course has been re-scheduled for Sundays, May 21,28 & June 4, 11, 18 after the morning worship services. The course will cover such topics as the meaning of church membership, Reformed fundamentals and distinctives, United Reformed church history, and select articles of the United Reformed church order. The course is designed to provide enough information about PURC's history, beliefs and practices in order to make an informed decision about membership. If you are a regular attendee at PURC but are not currently a member, this course is for you. If you plan on attending the course, or if you have questions, please contact Pastor Grotenhuis by May 13( ).
